The Lawn Company Reviews

  • Apr 25, 2014

We have spent over two decades creating extensive gardens all over our yard as well as natural pathways and picnic grounds in the back under the trees. We estimate about half of our property is actual grass with well defined edges. The Lawn Company (TLC) has been maintaining our lawn for a few seasons. We have been satisfied for the most part although our grass never seemed really lush considering the money we invested in the TLC maintenance program. However -- the weeds, crabgrass, and grubs were under control for the most part.

Last fall, TLC offered aeration and over-seeding for $225. Since our lawn was sparse in areas, we thought this was a great solution. TLC came out to do the job after a few days of heavy rain. We came home that day to huge clumps of mud all over our yard and driveway. After several days, we realized pockets of grass were growing everywhere in our gardens, along our pathways, as well as covering our horseshoe pit and picnic grounds under the trees. We were heartbroken every time we looked out our windows.

We contacted TLC to let them know the problem and sent letters with numerous before and after pictures. It took weeks to touch base and for TLC to even visit our property so there was the additional issue of falling leaves, pinecones, and pine needles. We finally wrote a letter offering a few options one of which was to wait until the spring and they agreed. However, we included a stipulation that we must be home before they visited or did anything else to our property.

On March 28th, TLC showed up without our knowledge, approval, or presence and put down a very limited application of grass killer on one of our pathways. They left a note stating they now needed a map so they would know the exact areas to be treated.

We contacted TLC again several times by phone to let them know the treated grass did not die, we were upset they came when we werent home, and that the rest of the back yard still needed to be treated which was several thousand sq ft. We were told to give the grass killer more time to work. Our last call the end of April was not returned.

We wrote another letter in June stating our dissatisfaction, sent a check for half of the $225 as a compromise, and requested they resume our seasonal lawn care. TLC wrote back claiming they never received any calls, never received our map, and that they dont remove dead grass roots because they will decompose. They concluded by stating they would forward our information to an area manager to discuss the next course of action and would not reinstate our account.

We have since checked out web reviews on The Lawn Company. We only wish we had done this before enlisting their services. We now join a long list of unsatisfied customers. In order to avoid collection agencies and possibly hurting our credit, we decided to just pay the entire amount and permanently close our account with this company.

We are working on our yard section by section to restore it to its original state. It has cost us approximately $50 to date for grass killer which only covered a fraction of the area in question. It has been back-breaking work to remove the dead grass roots as we go along. We only hope others will be spared this horrible customer service experience with The Lawn Company by reading our story. Buyer Beware!
