I am a former employee of US Prisoner Transport. The company gets contracted by local state and federal agencies to transport prisoners under the Federal Extradition Act across state lines. In my experience with this company drivers never receive enough sleep while being on the road for 16 days driving vans with an inadequate sleeper berth. I had seen first hand drivers get into accidents because they were falling asleep at the wheel. When I was at the wheel on several occasions I swerved into oncoming traffic because I was falling asleep at the wheel. The owner Robert Downs does not care if drivers need sleep, he just says get it done. I have seen DOT give over $180,000 in violations but the company is so profitable it doesn't discourage Mr. Downs. I had to quit in fear for my life and I've come here to shed some light on the situation. Hopefully somebody will be able to do something before someone gets killed.
