Dear Sir or Madam and all readers, I wish to relate the facts of a disturbing experience I had as a consumer this past Monday, August 12, 2013. It started with an from the Rider’s Digest. I am astonished at the blatant disrespect to consumers, but mostly to people, honest people responding to an ad with the purpose of purchasing what it is offered. I pulled an ad from the Reader’s Digest magazine soon after I got my “September” issue. The advertisement is from a company by the name of “U.S. Money Reserve.” This company takes pride to have “Official legal tender silver coins” to be “Authorized by the Government” and to be “Fully backed by the U.S. government.” This “Just Released” offer is advertising Silver Eagles coins for $22.00 each, with a minimum purchase of “five” coins plus shipping and handling. When I called the 800 number to order the coins, the teller told me immediately that they had sold out this offer, because they sold 250 million coins since this ad. Immediately the same gentleman offered to sell me the same coin for $25 and change. I was extremely disappointed that a company that is supposed to be trustworthy entity to help investors are just operating under the “bait and switch” system. The first thing that came to mind was: How in the world did they sell all of this coins in a day? Moreover, if they were sold out… How can he be offering me the same coin for a higher price? Didn’t they run out of the coins? Why then, he was so ready to continue with the transaction for a higher price, not honoring the advertised price? This is a perfect example of misleading advertising, never mind so patronizing… Was I supposed to say, “Oh! OK, since you sold the ones you advertised, I buy the identical ones you still have for a higher price.” Now, when I called Reader’s Digest, to relate this incident, the nice lady who listened to my story could only state: “I will relay this message to the advertising department, but there is nothing I could do.” I was not expecting her to do anything about it; my intentions were to make them aware that their reputation is also at stake, since they are selling ads to unscrupulous dishonest entities. As a lifetime client of the Reader’s Digest magazine, I am very disappointed that companies like U.S. Money Reserve infiltrate this wholesome and reputable reading institution. I have commented this issue with my peers, and unanimously share my feelings. I am planning on sending this article to the local newspapers and broadcast it to all possible consumer advocates as it is my moral and citizen responsibility to make others aware of this type of disrespectful scams. Thank you very much for your reflective attention. Blessings.

Great customer service, but you pay for it

I also shop through one of the competitors. US Money Reserve has better customer service. But with the other guys any purchase over $100 is shipped and insured, the shipping's free. Maybe something to keep in mind. Their prices are also a bit more competitive but the customer service with US Money Reserve is much better. The reps are very helpful and polite and there's a good chance I'll call again because of that. (I'm a 2-time buyer)

Excellent company

I made a purchase back in October last year. The staff was courteous and very knowledgable, the prices are very competitive and the quality of the products are excellent. I've had very good experiences and I've had other family members and friends use the company and they've had nothing but good experiences. I recommend the company to others looking to do the same.

On December 15th, I placed a telephone order for a small gold coin for a Christmas gift to my daughter.

The $157.89 I sent was to pay for the coin and for insurance.

I called a few times. On January 5, 2015, I was told they were looking into it and would soon get back to me by phone.

I did receive a lot of beautiful brochures, but still no coin.

I would like either the coin, or my money returned to me. I am in my 80s and tired of being ripped-off!

The coin was being sold for $133.00 per the advertisment in Time Magazine. However, when I called, the price was raised.
