Watkins Manufacturing Corporation Reviews

  • Jul 18, 2014

My husband and I purchased a Hot Spot spa about 3 yrs ago. It cost $8000. We had trouble with it from the start. We had to replace major components including an ozonater and a water pump and motor in the first 2 years. These peices were under warranty. The second pump was installed in Dec. 2011. It never worked properly and always left the water green. After 18 months that pump which was only warrantied for 1 year went completely out. We had had service technicians up several times in that time period. They always told us it was something else and that we needed to purchase extra filters and chemicals, which we did. Nothing improved the condidtion of the water. We feel that the servicemen who had been trained at the Watkins factory was leading us along until the warranty went out. Upon contacting Watkins, we were basically told "sorry, you are 6 months out of warranty. The part which can only be purchased from Watkins is $570. plus installation.

I looked online for reviews of Hotsprings and Hot spot spas and found several people who had the same experience. We believe that it is Watkins unfair business practice to overcharge for cheaply made peices of junk that are designed to last for 18 months while the warranty is for 12 months. That is how long both of our pumps lasted.

I tried to file a review on the Hotspring website and they would not allow me to say how much the spa nor the extra parts cost. Nor would they allow me to say where the parts were made. They were made in Mexico while their offices are in California. Upon further inspection of the spa, I noticed that all the parts were made in Mexico. The revised review was posted on their website with a response stating that they were working hard to fix the problem and that I should watch my email for contact from the company. That contact never came.

I next went online to find a pump that would work in our tub. I found one made in the USA fir 1/3 of the cost of the Watkins pump. It has a warranty of 3 years.

I believe that Watkins Manufacturing is involved in unfair business practices and is decieving it's customers into believing their products are built in the US when they are not. Also I believe they produce cheap Mexican made parts that are intended to last for 18 months and warranty them for 12 knowing that people have no choice but to continue replacing them at the exhorbitant prices. Also they do not allow negative reviews for their products if too much information for the consumer is included.
