Western International University Reviews

  • Jul 11, 2014

Western International University allowed someone to use my information to attend their school online had an investigator tell me that it was my writing and is now making me pay them back before giving me what classes I supposedly took. Then they won't give me information because what I provide them doesn't match their records. They need to be shut down. If you ask to speak to a dean or higher authority they tell you no.

I don't even know how to do internet classes like they are telling me I took. Every part of Western International University and University of Phoenix needs to be shut down. WIU is a division of University of Phoenix. This is over stuff from 6 years ago at that.

I enrolled to what I was told was Western International University and that allcredits were fully transferrable. I agreed to thisafter researching since I knew at that time I was moving out of state and would likely only complete one year with that schoolonline before going to a local universtiy. I had some major life situations prevent me from returning to school as quickly as I would have liked. However, I am currently in the process of getting back to school and when I tried to obtain transcripts, I was first told that they had no records on me of ever attending the school. I had taken out student loans so I called the company that I am paying to find out who the loans were paid to and was told that all fees were paid to Western International. I called their student admissions office again and at that time was told that they located my records but that I had attended the technical school, Axia, and that my credits would not transfer. I asked about the costs for Axia and according to the math and the amount of student loans that were paid out, I have over paid for all of my credits. Not only that but I was told that I had an outstanding balance on my account so my transcripts would not be released to another school. When I asked about the balance I was told that they did not have that information and I would have to contact the collection agency that it had been sent to.

Due to the hold up trying to get everything obtained since they originally "had no record of me attending school', I am not going to be able to start school on my target date.

I am frustrated that when I started my education with them I was told it was a university and all credits were fully transferable and agreed to the more expensive credit hours so I would have that benefit only to find out that I attended a technical school and thiat is not the case. And due to this, I am not only going to have to start over with my school to obtain my original degree but I am alos going to eat the costs of all of the student loans that I still owe as a result of waisted education.

I first contacted what I thought was University of Phoenix in 2004. I was assigned an advisor/counselor who was supposed to help me determine the best courses to take for the progam I wanted. I told him I really wanted to teach, and wanted to know what kind of teaching programs they had to offer for Texas residents. He explained to me that they did offer a teaching program and there were specific courses I had to take. He walked me through my choices and together we chose the best course plan for what I wanted; so I thought.

At first, everything seemed to be OK with my schedule. I had a couple of electives and some reasonable courses, like math, philosophy, and literature. After the first set of courses were completed, I contacted my advisor/counselor to select my courses for the next term. I was told my original advisor was ""let go"" and I had been assigned another advisor. I had to go over everything with him about what program I was enrolled in and what courses I would like to take.

After explaining to him everything I had already gone over with my previous advisor, he informed me that I wasn't enrolled in the University of Phoenix. I was attending a ""sister school"" called Western International University. He quickly told me everything was OK, because they were a feeder school for University of Phoenix and it wouldn't effect how my credits transferred. He assured me that everything was 100% transferrable to any university and once I had completed my two years there, I could transfer to University of Phoenix if I wished to obtain my Bachelor's degree.

Of course I was pretty upset to find out I had been attending a totally different school than I intended on attending, but I calmed down and took his word for it; after all, he was my advisor. We then started discussing my course schedule for the upcoming term. That's when I really started realizing something was terribly wrong.

My advisor told me one of the courses I had to take was Business Law. I asked him why on earth I would need Business Law for a degree in Elementary Education. It just didn't make much sense to me. He started laughing and told me they didn't offer teaching degree programs to students outside of Arizona. He then informed me that I was in the Business program. Of course I was once again very upset.

After talking with him for a couple of hours trying to get everything sorted out, we both decided I should continue out the year because I had already taken out the loan and the school already had my money. I asked him straight out if I continued the program, were my credits transferrable to another university in Texas. He assured me that they would transfer, because it was a fully accredited school. So I decided to go ahead and continue the business program because I didn't want to lose the money and owe for loans on an education I never received.

I had various other problems and was tossed around to two more advisors the following year, but I did graduate with my Associate's degree in Business in 2006. Fast forward to 2010 where I enroll in the University of Houston. I start going through the same process with the counselor, trying to decide what courses I need to take and how many credits I'll need. The counselor informs me that I will have to start over because only two of the courses I have taken with Western International University will transfer.

So here I am now, still not able to transfer to a local university to obtain my Bachelor's degree and still unable to find a decent job. I have thousands of dollars in student loans I have to pay and no money to pay them because I can't find a decent job that pays enough, unless I have a Bachelor's degree. I can't get the Bachelor's degree without taking out more student loans and starting a business program over from day one.

I began at West in 2011 after graduating from University of Phoenix. I was told Western was UoP's sister school. That was the number 1 reason to enroll.

The first question I asked, "" do i have anymore math to do""?

I was told,""no"". This was only the first false stayement, but this lie didnt come out until after being there over a year and learned I was schedualed to take what? Statistics..Math.

The next issue began early that I peraonally have been fighting with them over since i began.

When i enrolled it was for my BA in Criminal Behavior. I have yet to take a class that they counted dealing with criminal behavior except (one) class, Personality Theories. After 8 weeks and another A added to my academics, I get a call telling me all the work for 8 weeks meant nothing because Personality Theories. The only class I had taken that referenced criminal behavior somehow did not count...Sorry...

I did get a refund, but it was the second time i finished an 8 week class, got an A, but did not apply to my degree program.

Western is phasing out their Criminal Behavior degree program and not all classes will be avaible on time...

It could take me years to finish.

Next, West has these classes called; Common Body of Knowledge. West claims it is for ALL students to get a Well Rounded Education, but i already have my Associates thank you very much. Learning this little factor way after the fact. Guess it was one more thing my Enrollment whatever forgot to disclose.

CBK classes are Business oriented classes because Western apparently is a business college..Another piece of information not disclosed until i am taking an HR class wondering what the heck does being some HR have to do with Criminal Behavior?

I have taken over a year of BEH Behavioral Health classes. None that have any correlation toward criminal behavior, human behavior maybe, but these classes are the same type the students who enrolled for a Behavioral Health degree are taking. Hummmm.

I began taking what Western considers the,""Criminal"", portion of my degree program that are the exact same classes I took to get my Associates degree in what you ask? Criminal Justice, hey I already took these,TWICE!!!

None of the classes i have taken thus far have anything to do with criminal behavior, just regular American judicial system in general that any first year law student would take, except for the behavioral health classes that any first year Psych student would take to getting their PhD. Hummm. Not what i enrolled for.

Back to those CBK classes, well rounded education is English, Math, Sciences...funny thing about these classes all being business degree worthy, only my degree is for Criminal Behavior.

I was told after giving feedback at the end of every 8 week course per instructed everytime i called to speak to someone about the CBK classes and how it seemed to me is Discrimination due to Western International Universities policies repeated over and over how West wants ALL their students to have this well rounded education. Except what i pointed out, they didnt agree, nor appreciate what i said, "" If these classes are for this well rounded thing, why then dont the Business major students take CBK that are different from those of us getting a Criminal Behavior or Behavioral Health degree who when we take CBK classes they are all business classes, and the majority of student who are enrolled at West arent getting the same well rounded education, when they take thier CBK classes, they are just more business classes.

I inquired, why dont the business degree students have to take BEH or CRB, behavioral health or Criminal justice classes and us students either getting a Criminal Justice, Criminal Behavior, or Behavioral Health degree. WE are made to take business classes through these CBKs and Business degree students are taking the exact same BUSINESS CBK classes that means the Business degree students are just taking more business classes, hey they arent getting the Western International University well rounded education that the employees continue stating, but ALL our students get the same well rounded education, except the business degree students are not taking any other type of classes, but business for the 100th time..

I was promised finally after a year of pointing out this huge discrimination, I would get an appointment with the Dean of Students whom no one is allowed to see? Dean of Students that students are NOT allowed appointments with. Well thats just crazy! A person whose job title has,""students"" in the title, but the students are not allowed to speak to the Dean of Students?

I never got the schedualed appointment call. When i called to inquire what happened, I was told there was now a NEW Dean of Students that took over.

They took over in a few weeks while i was waiting for my appointment? How was this even possible.

These are only a few of the things, at West you need 126 credits to graduate with a.BA,BS, while the majority of other Universities, even those online people,,,you only need 120 credits to graduate and get your BA,BS.

It seems West is selling a lot of BS without the piece of paper, that degree Im working so hard to get without taking any classes having anything to do with Criminal Behavior..what degree am I actually paying for?

The instructors, at least a majority, never give a rubric. For those who dont know what a rubric is, they are a very important tool for all students that if used will ensure success for ALL students. It is a document that explains in detail instructions from the instructor to the students what exactly that instructor for that particular class expectations are per each and every writting assignment!

West instructors never have them, then find every tiny detail including their personal opinion that should never be allowed toward grading for or against any student academic paper. Opinions of instructors like their egos should never enter a classroom. Instructors who might not like you as a person, or who forget to even read the paper and send your paper that you worked hard on and excited to share your work with your instructor, then you the student find out, the instructor didnt bother to read your final, the paper you worked 3 weeks to finish.

You learn your paper was read by a program, a program that was sued and some Ivy league schools removed because why yoy might be wondering? A plagarism checker sued for plagarism. How ironic is that! IPlagarism was sued because they collect student papers checking grammar, punctuation, spelling, plagarism, then sell a stockpile of student papers all in categories A papers,B,C and so on to a wherehouse who then sell to independents who then sell each paper by category type, title, grade and some A papers that go from 5.00 per page up to 50.00 per page that some students who dont care, who probably arent taking ethics yet.

This is what grades my papers without my consent that is a copyright infringment issue since i am also a writer and not just some student who is unaware, plus thanks to West making me take classes that have nothing to do with, yes you guessed it,Criminal Behavior!

I have learned a lot of law, civil, constitutional and lets not forget criminal law, nothing of behavior, but for what its worth, the staff who work in enrollment, academics, financial, pretty much have that criminal behavior category covered. I have learned a lot about criminal behavior through the dozens upon dozens of calls I have made since my start Jan. 2011 and its now Jan.2014 and I have had to drop as many classes as i have completed because of one negligent reason after another and still I have not gotten that call or appointment with the Dean of Students who gets a paycheck off me and other students like me, but we students arent allowed meetings or appointments with the Dean of Students.

That sentence for me sums up the entire experience for me at West. I would like to find an attorney to file against Western International University and I'd be happy getting part of the tuiton I paid back so I am able to finish my educational goal, getting my Masters so I can instruct on line because I would make sure to read my students papers, grade fairly, be present, and actually do the job i would get paid to do instead of these instructors at West who do a bare minimum to get a paycheck and care nothing for the students who do work hard for the grade......
