In April of 2000, I hired Mr. Wixted as my attorney. I had been arrested in Atlantic City, NJ and he was hired to provide a criminal defense. At the time I was unemployed and 24 years old, so my mother, being the kind loving woman she is paid Mr. Wixted his fee of $3000 that he quoted us to represent me in this case.

A few months later, I decided to move from New Jersey to Seattle Washington to start a new life, so to speak. I kept in contact with Mr. Wixted and informed him I would be able to come back and face trial if need be. He had all my contact information, and my new address, plus my mom still lived in New Jersey not three miles from his office. I didn't hear anything from Mr. Wixted for two years.

In 2002 he called my Mom and told her that the prosecutor in my case "couldn't find my paperwork" and that he was going to check back with them in a few weeks to see if anything had changed. That was the last time I thought of this case, or spoke to Mr. Wixted. I just assumed it was over. Albeit I was a little naive to think that my case would just magically go away, but then again, I don't assume to understand the court system, or the power that someone like Mr. Wixted had. I moved on with my life and didn't think about this case again.

Fast forward to May of 2014. I had been living in Los Angeles for the past 11 years and it was time to renew my passport. I was shocked five weeks later when I received a letter of denial for my passport renewal due to the fact that I had an outstanding bench warrant that was issued against me for failure to appear to a court case in August of 2000.

I was completely and utterly shocked that this matter popped back up into my life again. I immediately contacted Mr. Wixted's office in Camden, and I spent time emailing and speaking to his paralegal Kristie about this matter. It took a few weeks for them to figure out that this was connected to my case form 2000 that I had hired Mr. Wixted to defend me in some 15 years ago.

In November of 2014 I spoke to Mr. Wixted on the phone and he assured me that he would "get to the bottom" of this matter and he would call me the following week when he spoke to the prosecutor's office in Atlantic County to figure out the best way to resolve this matter. I didn't hear from Mr. Wixted for the next two months.

I tried calling his office and leaving messages, but no one called me back. I tried emailing his paralegal week after week and NEVER was I sent any semblance of a response or even an email back. I even went so far as to inform my mom as to what was going on, at which point she contacted her lawyer who was an associate of Mr. Wixted.

Suddenly, within days of that letter from lawyer to lawyer we both FINALLY heard from Dennis Wixted. He called my mom and left a message, then he called me in Los Angeles and when I spoke with him, he seemed very confused had no idea how this could have happened, or who had messed up so much to get to this point. He even admitted that perhaps it was HIS fault that this matter was still not resolved and for the first time, I totally believed him.

It was very obvious that he had done NOTHING to help me in this case over the past 15 years. He did nothing, but he took $3000 of my Mom's hard earned money. And to add insult to injury, $3000 back in 2000 is about $4100 today.

I haven't contacted Mr. Wixted since. I'm still waiting for him to "get back to me" like he said he was going to do, but in the meantime, I already hired a different lawyer who got me a court hearing within a week and helped me to clear these charges from all the way back in 2000.

In fact, I just got back from NJ this morning. I don't understand why Mr. Wixted couldn't have done the same thing as my new lawyer did. I'm insulted that he basically STOLE $3000 from my Mom fifteen years ago and has still done NOTHING but talk out his a*s. Nevermind how disrepectful it is to ignore a client's phone calls and emails for months, he should be ashamed of himself for taking advantage of my Mom, our situation, and taking her money when he certainly didn't earn it.

Look, I'm good person. I made two mistakes back in 2000. I got myself arrested, and I hired Dennis Wixted to represent me. Please learn from my mistakes and stay out of trouble, but if you do happen to get into a situation and you need a lawyer, stay away from Dennis Wixted. Besides, he's probably too busy to answer the phone or lacks the common courtesy to return an email.
